Mr. Maher began his career in 1980 specializing in technical sales for the British steel Corporation in Egypt, through which he dealt with most of the Government Infrastructure developing bodies; and major contracting and construction companies.
In 1984 he joined the National Bank for Development where he held different posts in Trade finance and investment banking activities, the last of which was the position of Foreign Treasury and Dealing Room Manager, where he was responsible for the bank foreign investments, involved in monitoring the bank’s money market and foreign exchange activities, as well as the capital market investments. Through this post, he gained extensive experience in international as well as local capital market activities, specifically in the Egyptian Stock Exchange where he dealt with governmental and local institutional bodies.
In 1994 Mr. Maher joined Arbitrage Consultants with Mr. Shireen Alkady, as an associate consultant involved in corporate finance services, mainly providing advisory services to the Government of Egypt in the privatization program.
Mr. Maher is one of the founders of Prime Group, whereby he engaged the role of Managing Director of Prime Investments starting 1995 for two years, followed by Chairman and Managing Director of Prime Securities till today, in addition to holding the post of Vice Chairman of Prime Holding as well as the other Prime Group affiliates.
Mr. Maher has an active role in several NGOs’, currently he is a board member of Cairo and Alexandria Stock Exchange (CASE), the Egyptian Capital Market Association (ECMA) as well as Vice Chairman of the Capital Market Committee of the Egyptian Chamber of Commerce, also he is a member of (Case 30) committee in Cairo and Alexandria Stock Exchange (CASE), and was previously on the First Board of the Egyptian Institute of Directors.
Mr. Maher holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Ain Shams University and a Masters Degree in banking & International Finance (MBF) from the Fin Africa Foundation in Milan, Italy.
During his career Mr. Maher participated in numerous local and international training courses, conferences and round table discussions in the areas of banking, investment and capital markets activities, and stands as an active participant in discussing capital market regulatory issues either through the NGOs’ membership or directly with the regulatory bodies. |
